B&B Myths – DEBUNKED!
There are many misconceptions when it comes to what a bed & breakfast is, who it’s for and what kinds of amenities and services that these establishments offer. We’ve heard them all, and today were here to set the record straight.

Myth:
Bed & Breakfasts are only for layover or single night stays
Ok, so maybe some people are taking the term “bed & breakfast” a little too literally. Contrary to what the title may imply, B&Bs offer more than just a place to lay your hat, a hot meal and a shove out the door. At O Canada House we not only offer super comfy beds and 3 course gourmet breakfasts but also a comprehensive concierge services, 24 hour guest pantry filled with treats baked fresh daily and afternoon Sherry, if it fancies you.
Myth:
Shared Bathrooms!
Although many B&Bs are large converted houses, shared bathrooms are certainly not the industry norm. At O Canada House every suite features a well appointed private ensuite, complete with those handy complimentary soaps, just in case you forgot yours.
Myth:
B&Bs are expensive
As smaller, independently owned and operated establishments B&Bs can’t always compete with the rock bottom prices that many large hotel chains have on offer these days. What many travelers fail to take into consideration is all the added value goods and services that B&B’s offer that most big box hotels do not.
O Canada House stays on top of industry trends to keep our prices very competitive, without sacrificing our guest experience. All of our rates always include; free parking, daily 3 course gourmet breakfast, 24 guest pantry complete with fresh baked snacks, wifi, use of guest laptop, luggage storage for early or late check-ins, in house DVD or book collections, discounts on local attractions and comprehensive concierge services – all located in the heart of downtown Vancouver!
Myth:
B&B’s are not good for business travelers
This may have been true of the B&B of days gone by. The modern B&B offers many of the same amenities that you find in hotels, but with all the comforts of home and a little extra flair. Inquire for our single occupancy weekday rates!
Myth:
B&B’s have little privacy
Most B&B’s offer plenty of privacy. At O Canada House you won’t be forced to sit with our Aunt Bee, pouring over black and white photo albums in a dusty living room. With comfortable, quiet suites complete with all the modern amenities of a larger hotel including TV, DVD, phone and wifi guests can be assured that their stay at O Canada House will be peaceful. At breakfast you will not be seated around a family style dining suite making awkward small talk with other guests. Our dining room features restaurant style seating with table service. With tables seating 2, 4 or 6 guests we can accommodate parties of any size – in case you did happen to make a few new friends or prefer to savor an intimate meal.
Myth:
B&B’s have weird rules and lockout policies
While we can’t speak for all B&B’s, O Canada House has no ‘rules’ outside of what any regular hotel may have. We are pleased to accommodate early or late check-ins, special dietary requirements, have a 24 hour open-door policy (you will get your very own key) and excellent security features. You will never be banished to your suite, or locked out after dark.
