Robson Street: “Shop, Dine, Discover”

For our inaugural blog post, we at ‘O Canada’ House thought that we would start with a favorite haunt close to home: Robson Street.

Robson Street

Robson Street

Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, only steps from ‘O Canada’ House Bed & Breakfast, this hub has been known as a shopping and dining mecca since it was christened after then-mayor John Robson in 1889.

Post WWII, many european settlers set up shops reminiscent of the delicatessens and boutiques of their homeland, lending the corridor the nickname ‘Robsonstrasse’.

In more modern times, Robson Street has not lost its diverse feel as it hosts many top retailers from around the globe and independently owned boutiques alike.

Hungry? Robson Street boasts a huge selection of restaurants; from crepes to sushi, a quite lunch or a four course fine dining extravaganza, you will find something here to tickle even the most fickle taste-buds.

After a long day of shopping or sightseeing, take a moment to put your aching feet up and engage in the favorite pastimes of many Vancouverites, people watching. Find yourself a spot at one of the dozens of coffee shops, sit back, and let the show begin.

No matter what adventures you encounter on Robson Street, take comfort that you are never far from your ‘home away from home’ as ‘O Canada’ House is only a 3 minute stroll away.

Fun Fact: Robson Street is also featured on the Canadian Monopoly board as the most expensive property.
